The construction of the new Maintenance of Way Building for the State of Connecticut, Department of Transportation in New Haven, CT is complete. The new 28,000sf building has two main functions. One of those functions being that the building will house offices, supervisor quarters, locker rooms, kitchen and vending areas as well as conference areas. The building's other purpose is to house crew shops for carpentry, plumbing, electrical, signage, radios, and materials storage. The project also includes parking for over 260 vehicles as well as creation of an off-site outdoor materials storage area. One of the main construction challenges was relocating an existing through street from the new parking lot to the middle of the project site. The critical interface with the utility companies and the coordination with other contractors, who were constructing other buildings on adjacent parcels, in the rail yard were key factors to the success of the project.
