Having been in the industry for 40 years, Peter Etzel exemplifies integrity, work ethic, commitment to industry and client service, and a knowledge of construction that has gained him immeasurable respect from repeat clients, peers and his co-workers at Newfield Construction.
Starting his career as a carpenter, followed by formal education at Hartford State Technical College and Central Connecticut State University, began his influence in the industry. His management career began as Carpenter/Foreman at Burlington Construction/O&G then as an Assistant Superintendent and Superintendent at Maramba Builders, Enterprise and Casle Corporations. This experience gave him the skills and confidence to start his own business, Erro Development. At Erro, his focus as VP of Operations was twofold. He bought, sold and developed land for residential projects and he ran their construction division, working for clients such as Cigna, Hartford Insurance and Ames stores.
Newfield Construction admired Peter's success and convinced him to join them in 1990. While at Newfield, Peter has been instrumental in building the company's project portfolio from small GC projects to the large CM projects it completes today. He has acted in the roles of Superintendent, Project Manager, General Superintendent and Safety Officer. Peter is currently Newfield's Vice President of Operations and Chief Safety Officer, influential in corporate strategic planning and staff training, and responsible for project staffing, troubleshooting, and corporate safety. Peter is also active in business development and client service because of his vast network of owners and subcontractors who respect him. Peter's influence at Newfield spans much more than his job description, enveloping all divisions of the organization. As Damien Davis, Newfield's President, states, "Peter has been a guiding force within the Newfield organization for the past 25 years. The entire firm respects him immensely and relies upon him for advice, guidance and his calm problem-solving abilities. He is the consummate professional and we are fortunate to have someone of his caliber as one of our key leaders."
Peter has been involved with numerous industry organizations such as Construction Institute and Professional Women in Construction. He has also given back to the industry by his intensive involvement on:
AGC Board of Directors
CCIA Safety Committee
CSA-AGC-CMAA Joint Committee
Xavier High School Physical Plant Committee Chairman - Board of Directors
Town of Burlington Building Committees - Fire House, Library, Town Hall and Town Garage
Over the years, Peter has constructed some of the most important projects within the region such as the renovation of the Old State House and the new Greater Hartford Jaycees Community Boathouse both in Hartford, the ECSU Student Center in Willimantic, Norwalk Fire Headquarters and numerous projects at Choate Rosemary Hall.
