Bridgeport - As the Construction Manager for the new Norwalk Fire Headquarters LEED Gold facility, Newfield Construction participated actively to gain all LEED credits for this remarkable building. Housing not only the apparatus bays and fire fighters living quarters, it also houses the City's Data Center, Regional Emergency Operations Command and an Indoor Training Facility. The Mayor's Task Force on the Energy and Environment and Fire Department forces committed to a new 30,000sf sustainable building, on the existing brownfield site, aiming to achieve LEED Silver Certification, while limited public funding challenged targeted points. The team successfully achieved LEED Gold with the new headquarters, exceeding sustainability goals and launching a City-wide platform for new Standard Operating Procedures targeting single-stream recycling centers, use of environmentally safe cleaning agents and no smoking in and within 25-feet of the building. As a building occupied by 20 staff and visited by hundreds of school children annually, it is a living museum showcasing fire safety, respect for public servants, and stewardship of environment through signage describing sustainable building components.
