Newfield has been working with the Town of Southington for over ten years, and the DePaolo Middle School project was Newfield’s 7th project with the Town. The existing 107,000 middle school, which houses nearly 700 students from grades 6 through 8, was renovated-as-new according to the State of Connecticut standards and meets High-Performance Building Standards. Thirty-three thousand square feet of additions completed the project and now house 12 new classrooms, a media center, and music rooms. The school contains all new systems and program areas, including new entry and administrative regions, an enhanced auditorium, reconfigured space to accommodate the middle-school team teaching model, and updated classrooms. The project comprised $40M of construction prosecuted in 6 phases while the building was occupied.

Newfield was engaged before the design team to offer the maximum expertise possible under the Construction Management at Risk delivery method. We assisted the Town with its EDO49 submission and worked closely with the design team to provide budgets, value engineering, and constructability reviews as the design moved forward. Our project was $1.2M or 2% under budget and has been completed on schedule. The construction phase met all CHRO requirements and proceeded without any safety issues.
