Newfield Construction has been selected to provide complete Construction Management services for the new Rocky Hill Intermediate School. The new 79,150sf school will serve to alleviate overcrowding in the Town’s two existing kindergarten through 5th grade schools. The Town’s 4th and 5th grade students will relocate to the new building once completed. The project is subject to CT DAS Office of School Construction Grants and Review (OSCG&R) requirements. The new school will be built on the site of the former Moser School, which will be demolished prior to the construction of the new school.
The school’s focus will be to integrate Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education across the curriculum. The building will provide space and equipment which will effectively nurture problem-solving skills through hands-on learning with the Connecticut Science Standards embedded.
The project scope will include 26 classrooms, 6 of which will be large science laboratory classrooms outfitted for general studies and STEM learning, a full-sized gymnasium, cafetorium and media center. In addition, the complex site will be reimagined to include redesigned athletic fields for baseball, softball, soccer and lacrosse for use by the school and the community.
