Journalism and Media Magnet Academy High School

Hartford, CT

In an effort to engage students in print and electronic media careers, Newfield converted the existing Barbour Elementary School into Hartford's new state-of-the-art TV and Broadcasting education school. This 9-12th grade school will eventually house 400 students and includes 50,000 square feet of "renovate-as-new" space and a 25,000 square foot addition.

The building houses TV and broadcast radio studios, screening room, control rooms, computer labs, science labs, media center, gymnasium and collaborative zone for teacher and student interaction.

Newfield worked closely with the City to manage the budget, schedule and construction quality on this CM-at-Risk project. The building is LEED Gold and was designed using BIM technology. The project operated under a PLA and required M/WBE participation as well as local resident employment and apprentice training.
