Newfield Construction served as Construction Manager during the full demolition and renovation of a 150,000 square foot former Sears Department Store, as well as 25,000 square feet of new construction and a 3,500 square foot renovation of the existing 200-seat Performing Arts Center.
The Housatonic Community College Performing Arts Center located in Lafayette Hall underwent a major renovation as part of the Beacon Hall Additions and Renovation project. The existing, outdated Performing Arts Center lacked a formal performance stage, sound and lighting systems, dressing rooms, prop storage rooms, etc. Newfield Construction managed the extensive renovations that included the creation of an elevated lighting platform along the back of the performance area as well as fully outfitted dressing rooms, prop storage rooms, state of the art theatrical lighting and rigging, sound and projection equipment, acoustical wall paneling and draperies. All of these items were all installed prior to the heart of the Performing Arts Center – the multi-functional and adjustable SteelDeck performance floor. This unique German engineered system had only been installed at one other college campus in United States. The hydraulic floor system has the ability to accommodate multiple configurations for performances such as amphitheater arrangements, stadium arrangements, theater in the round, etc. With the extensive renovations to the Lafayette Hall Performing Arts Center, the Theater Department will be able to provide the student body at Housatonic Community College years of unprecedented performance opportunities.
